Pricing

Murals are difficult to price without looking at what the customer wants. Some of my clients want a simple daisy painted over a crib, while others want and entire Tuscan village painted on their dining room wall! To give you a good, general idea of what I charge, I have come up with this basic calculator below. To put it quite simply, a very easy design runs about $10/square foot, a more intricate design runs $20/square foot, and a very detailed or difficult design runs $30/square foot. These prices are for the actual square footage PAINTED... not necessarily the entire wall size! So, if you have a small design that only takes up a 1'x2' space on an 8'x10' wall, you would calculate your cost based on the smaller figure. So, an example would be:

Size of actual painted image: 3' wide by 6' high

Square Footage of actual painted image: 18 square feet

At the Simpler rate of $10/s.f.: 18 x $10 = $180.00 (think of something cartoony and simple, like a monkey swinging from a tree in a baby's room)

At the More Difficult rate of $20/s.f.: 18 x $20 = $360.00 (this would be more like intricate lettering or a more realistic type painting)

At the High Detail or Difficult Rate of $30/s.f.: 18 x $30 = $540.00 (this would be a trompe l'oeil type painting with incredible detail, such as a doorway leading into a scene of Tuscany)

I also understand that babies grow into toddlers, and children become teens... so some of my clients might not want a permanent, painted-on mural in their home. So, as an alternative to Custom Murals, I also offer MagicMurals. MagicMurals offers both self-stick (and removable) murals of any size, or a wallpaper-type material that is more permanent. They have literally 1000's of designs and even allow you to upload your own photo for that truly custom look! Magic Murals is an excellent (and oftentimes less expensive and time-consuming) alternative to custom-painted murals, and it also allows the flexibility of removing the mural and taking it with you if you ever decide to change homes, or if you simply change your mind on your decorating and decide to take it down!

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS:

The cost of basic design, materials and labor are included in the price. If there is any need for scaffolding, ceiling work, or unusual ladders or tools, these may cost extra.

Cost shown above does not include wall painting or prep. If a large portion of the wall (usually over 50%) must be repainted to accomodate the mural, this may incur an additional charge. In most cases we will recommend you hire a professional interior painting company to apply any pre-paint colors or prep the walls prior to your mural being applied. This includes removal of any previous artwork, filling nail holes or cracks, or removing wallpaper. I also ask that the client remove any blinds, curtains, pictures, or furniture that might impede the work in progress prior to beginning the work.
One design sketch and two revision sketches are included in the quoted price. Additional sketches are charged at $45/hour design time.
Pricing does not include travel expenses incurred outside a 60-mile radius from Loveland, Colorado. If you are outside Colorado I can sometimes work with you long-distance and create your image on canvas or fiberboard, and ship that to you. Also for larger jobs I am willing to travel. Payment Terms:

A design fee of 25% of the final project price, or a minimum of $50, is due prior to the first sketch. This sketch fee is applied toward the total cost of the mural. A 25% non-refundable deposit is due at least two weeks prior to start date of painting (this allows ordering of supplies and scheduling.) Full balance is due on the final day of completion. If ordering a MagicMural, this applies to any sketch or design fees only.
